Mechanism of Action:

The body quickly transforms Fosaprepitant into Aprepitant after it is administered. Aprepitant blocks the function of substance P, a neurotransmitter involved in the vomiting reflex, by acting as an antagonist of the neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor. This successfully prevents nausea and vomiting, both acute and delayed.

How to use this Medication?

Whereas fosaprepitant injection is a powder prepared for intravenous usage and usually given as a single dosage prior to chemotherapy on day 1, aprepitant injection is an emulsion. On days two and three of the treatment cycle, oral apritant may be administered for adults undergoing certain chemotherapy regimens as well as children and adolescents receiving apritant.
