Mechanism of Action:

Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that prevents HIV from replicating by blocking the reverse transcriptase enzyme. The reverse transcriptase enzyme is inhibited by tenofovir and emtricitabine, which stops viral RNA from being converted to DNA and stops the virus from multiplying inside the host cells. By lowering the blood's viral load, this dual action strengthens the immune system and lowers the risk of consequences from HIV.

One tablet taken once a day, with or without food, is the usual dosage.

How to use this Medication?

Drink a glass of water along with this prescription. Take it daily at the same time as specified on the prescription label. Consume it with food. Take each dose exactly as directed on the prescription label for the best potential outcome from your therapy. Don't miss any dosages. The virus may become resistant to this and other medications if doses are skipped. Unless instructed otherwise by your care team, continue taking this therapy.
